The Brief
Shire plc, one of the world's fastest growing biotech companies until its acquisition by Takeda in 2019, retained our team as its digital partner for five years. The remit was substantial: manage and modernise a portfolio of nearly 100 marketing and regulatory assets, spanning websites, applications, analytics and CRM platforms, across EMEA, North America, Asia and Australasia.
We replaced a fragmented network of WordPress sites with a robust, centralised CMS platform backed onto Amazon Web Services for scalability and reliability. We customised the off-the-shelf CMS to meet Shire's stringent legal and regulatory approval requirements for publishing content, turning a manual, slow process with no clear workflow into a streamlined one, and enabling external agency Havas to work effectively on the sites. Automated scripts let new highly regulated microsites be created rapidly and efficiently, and when Shire acquired Baxalta we integrated the data streams needed to launch those microsites smoothly.
The partnership left Shire with an efficient, compliant digital operation, well positioned for growth in the pharmaceutical sector, and it continued right up to the Takeda acquisition. Five years inside a heavily regulated industry gave us a rigour around process and compliance that Node now applies to every managed environment.
