The Brief

Disney entrusted us with the digital strategy for the European launch of Star Wars Rebels, the acclaimed 3D animated series from Lucasfilm Animation. Set 15 years after Revenge of the Sith and leading into the original 1977 film, the series follows the growing rebellion against the Galactic Empire in a visual style drawn from Ralph McQuarrie's original trilogy concept art.

The launch needed a digital approach as engaging as the series' narrative. Alongside the strategy itself we created immersive, interactive storyboards and devised gamification concepts that let fans across Europe step into the world of the series and deepen their engagement with its characters and themes.

Rebels debuted with the one-hour film Spark of Rebellion on Disney Channel on 3 October 2014 before airing on Disney XD, running four seasons through to March 2018. Our work gave the series a distinctive, interactive digital footprint in Europe and contributed to its successful reception and enduring popularity with European audiences.

That audience-first approach to digital experience continues to inform how Node designs the products it builds.
